Who We Are

The Duke City  Lowrider Bike Club provides mentorship for high school and middle school students. The program is composed of community mentors, the Lowrider community, the City's Police Department, and the Bernalillo Sheriffs office.

The after school program is offered through the City of Albuquerque's Youth and Family Services Department.

What We Do

The Duke City Lowrider Bike Program is an after-school educational initiative for Albuquerque students in grades 6–12. The program combines hands-on trade training, cultural arts, and mentorship to empower youth through creativity and craftsmanship.

Students are introduced to a variety of trades including paint and bodywork, welding, pinstriping, fabrication, upholstery, leatherwork, and custom design. Each participant helps design and build their own lowrider bike—developing technical experience, problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of pride in their work.

This year, the program also introduces career pathways designed to engage youth in exploring jobs aligned with their interests. Students will gain exposure to potential careers in trades, design, and entrepreneurship while learning practical skills and tools to help them pursue employment or continue their education at the next academic level.

Beyond craftsmanship, the program focuses on leadership, teamwork, communication, and financial literacy. Mentors provide guidance and real-world experience, preparing students for success both in and out of the workshop.

Rooted in Albuquerque’s rich lowrider tradition, the program offers a safe and inclusive space where creativity, culture, and community come together. Students and mentors build more than bikes—they build confidence, connection, and brighter futures.
