Our Volunteer Crisis Advocates are very important here at the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico (RCC). As a volunteer, your most important job will be staffing/covering the 24/7 Crisis Hotline. All volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to:
- Hotline (via a cell phone provided by RCC)
- Shadowing and assisting our advocates as they support survivors with:
- Law enforcement accompaniments
- Court hearings
- Post-rape medical exams (SANE : Sexual Assault Nurse Examinations)
- Other case management tasks like walking survivors through what is and how to complete restraining orders
- Community outreach
- Tabling events where we can get information out about our program (i.e. Comic Con, brewery events, schools, universities, and anywhere else we’re invited to).
- Resource Compilation (we are presently researching and compiling resources in order to create a book that survivors can keep and reference as needed).
RCC requires a 40-hour training that will provide you with the Advocacy training as well as a Certificate from the NACP (National Advocate Credentialing Program). We provide this excellent training free of charge to Volunteer Advocates.
