Infant Classroom Volunteer- Thursday

Description

Infant Classroom Support Volunteers provide nurturing, consistent assistance to early childhood educators in a daycare serving children experiencing homelessness. Volunteers help create a safe, calm, and developmentally supportive environment where infants can feel secure, valued, and cared for during their day.

This role is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, reliable, and interested in supporting early childhood development while being sensitive to the unique experiences of families facing housing instability.

Schedule: Once per week, 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (2-hour shift)

Infants age range: 6 weeks-23 month

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in caring for infants through gentle interaction, comfort, and engagement

  • Hold, rock, and soothe infants as needed

  • Engage infants in age-appropriate activities such as reading, singing, and floor play

  • Assist with maintaining a calm and predictable classroom routine

  • Help set up and clean up play areas and learning materials

  • Sanitize toys and surfaces in accordance with health and safety guidelines

  • Support nap-time routines by helping infants settle and monitoring the environment

  • Assist staff during transitions (playtime, meals, rest periods)

  • What Volunteers Will Not Do

    • Be left alone with children

    • Administer medication

    • Make caregiving or disciplinary decisions independently

    • Share confidential information about children or families

    (All volunteer activities are supervised by trained childcare staff.)

    Qualifications & Expectations

    • Ability to commit to a weekly 2-hour shift (9:30–11:30 a.m.)

    • Comfort working with infants in a group care setting

    • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing presence

    • Willingness to follow all safety, hygiene, and confidentiality policies

    • Completion of required ECECD background checks, fingerprinting, CLN Volunteer Tour & Application.

Your presence allows teachers to better meet each child’s needs and helps create a sense of stability and belonging for our youngest learners.
