*This opportunity will require a CYFD background check to be completed. This will cost $60, S.A.F.E. House will reimburse you after you have completed at least 16 hours of volunteer work, if you choose. The background check will take up to 2 weeks to return.

S.A.F.E. House Kitchen Volunteer

We’re looking for compassionate and dependable volunteers to assist our kitchen team with preparing and serving dinner to residents at S.A.F.E. House.

Volunteer Schedule

Sunday – Wednesday | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Volunteers may serve once a week, every other week, or based on their availability. Any consistent help makes a difference!

Essential Functions

Kitchen volunteers may assist with:

1. Preparing and cooking meals and snacks.
2. Serving meals cafeteria-style.
3. Setting up and cleaning the dining area.
4. Cleaning and sanitizing dishes, equipment, and food service areas in accordance with sanitation requirements.
5. Following standard operating procedures and food safety guidelines.
6. Maintaining a respectful, courteous, positive, and professional environment with residents, staff, donors, and others.
7. Working cooperatively with kitchen staff and other volunteers to support quality services for residents.
8. Maintaining strict confidentiality of resident, employee, and agency information.
9. Assisting with inventory, food and supply organization, and ordering as directed.
10. Assisting with unloading deliveries and putting away food and supplies as needed.

Physical Requirements

Volunteers should be able to:

• Stand and walk frequently throughout the shift.
• Bend, reach, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs as needed.
• Use hands and fingers to handle dishes, kitchen equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Read written instructions and labels.
• Communicate effectively with staff and others in person and by telephone.
• Lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Work in a moderately noisy kitchen environment.

Accountability

This volunteer position reports directly to the Kitchen Manager and works in coordination with the Volunteer Manager.
