10/10/20 2nd Saturday – The Bridge Project
The Bridge Project is a binational, site specific installation for the Bridge Across Americas that directly included the communities of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad, Juarez, Chihuahua. The project was designed by Chrissie Orr, in collaboration with boarder artist Carlos Callejo as a part of the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo Cross Border Celebration, installed in October 1997. The Bridge of the Americas spans The Rio Grande from El Paso to Juarez and is one of the world’s busiest border crossings for both vehicles and pedestrians. It addresses issues and controversies of the border phenomena and the lives of the borderlanders, whose unique environment is shaped by constant exposure to transitional processes.
Chrissie is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in community based art projects and has been honored locally with a Santa Fe Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. She is a founder of the SeedBroadcast Collective, a mobile broadcasting station that examines the interconnections between people, seeds, and agriculture through performance, listening, and sharing of stories, resources and seeds
