By beautifying underutilized spaces, activated alleyways that weave throughout the International District neighborhoods build healthy communities by promoting and creating safe and active transportation and urban recreation trails.
Our VISION is that in 5 years: A multi-sector coalition of community organizations, institutions, and government agencies actively supports and advances community-led alleyway activations in Albuquerque. A Steering Committee guides the initiative, helping neighborhoods organize, learn, plan, and take action. At least six neighborhood associations/organizations have joined the coalition. Over eight miles of formerly neglected alleys have been transformed into valued community spaces. Disorder has significantly decreased, and residents feel safer, more connected, and actively use the alleys for gardening, walking, and relaxing.
