YMCA Youth and Government

Who We Are

NM YMCA Youth and Government develops youth who will be strong citizens by becoming knowledgeable and active in our democracy. Y&G offers leadership training in democracy and Constitutional government processes. The program is a non-partisan initiative for youth to gain an understanding of the workings of the politics that govern their lives and to discuss the issues relevant to them and their communities.

What We Do

Youth and Government hosts several events for NM high school and middle school students throughout the year. The annual events culminate in a 3-day conference in Santa Fe each April, where students model state government by stepping into the roles of our legislative, judicial, and executive branches, as well as a media program. This program is student-led, but volunteers are needed to support conference logistics, fundraising, material creation/prep, and creation of educational materials.
