Tax Help NM

Tax Help NM works to break the cycle of poverty that exists in New Mexico by educating and creating an experience that changes people’s lives.

Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) started a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program over 30 years ago. It is a free tax preparation service for the low to middle income households and the elderly citizens of our community. It was developed to help accounting students gain practical work experience and provided a much needed service.

TAX HELP New Mexico (THNM) expanded statewide in 2003 and currently there are 32 free tax sites throughout the State. In 2013, Tax Help New Mexico assisted over 30,000 families with both federal and state income tax returns and refunded over $20 million into the New Mexico economy. This service helped New Mexicans save more than $4.7 million in tax preparation fees.
