Who We Are
The New Mexico Heart Institute Foundation (NMHIF) is dedicated to enhancing the cardiovascular health of all New Mexicans through education, cardiovascular health promotion and research. The health promotion programs, through New Heart fitness center and Project Heart Start hands-only CPR, have changed lives by providing high quality guidance to people with heart disease and those at risk for heart disease.
What We Do
The NMHIF oversees Project Heart Start, a program that relies on volunteers to teach those in schools, businesses, organizations, and in the community how to save lives with four lifesaving skills. These skills are taught using Project Heart Start materials with the goal of training all capable New Mexicans in how to help save the life of an individual suffering sudden cardiac arrest outside of the hospital.
The New Mexico Heart Institute Foundation (NMHIF) was formed in 1985 by Dr. Barry Ramo through a generous gift from a family of one of the Heart Institute’s patients. The board of directors consists of physicians who share a common vision for its work. The Foundation has received support from the physicians at the New Mexico Heart Institute along with grateful patients and their families who appreciate the valuable work.
