Veteran volunteers serve to provide support, companionship, and a unique understanding to Veteran patients and their families. They offer a valuable connection, helping patients navigate their end-of-life journey with dignity and respect for their military service.

Qualifications:

Compassion and empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impairedExceptional communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to effectively handle multiple tasks or functionsAbility to maintain and protect patients' confidentiality and right to privacyMeets all health requirements set by Interim HealthCare, if applicable  Proof of valid driver’s licenseCompletion of hospice volunteer training and orientation program (provided by hospice organization)

Hospice volunteers play a vital role in supporting our patients and their families by providing companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance as they navigate the final stages of life. They offer respite to caregivers, assist with daily tasks, and help ensure patients' comfort and well-being. Volunteers work under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator, maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to the organization's policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

Companionship and Emotional Support: Volunteers spend time with patients, offering a listening ear, engaging in conversation, and providing emotional support. They may read to patients, play games, listen to music, or simply be present to offer comfort. Assisting with Daily Tasks: Volunteers can help with meals preparation, light household chores, running errands, shopping, or assisting with pet care. They can also help with tasks like writing letters, making phone calls, or helping with mail. Providing Respite for Caregivers: Volunteers offer caregivers a chance to take a break, allowing them to attend to other needs or simply recharge. Administrative Support: Volunteers can assist with tasks like filing, shredding, or answering phones in the hospice office. Bereavement Support: Volunteers may offer bereavement calls, visits, and memorial service assistance.

Pet Therapy – Connect the healing presence of animals to provide comfort, companionship, and emotional support to patients.Massage Therapy – Enhance relaxation and well-being while fostering a sense of calm and reducing stress.Haircare Specialists – Restore comfort, dignity, and a sense of normalcy to patients while enhancing their appearance and self-esteem by offering hairstyling and grooming services.Music Therapy – Elevate relaxation and connection through music to facilitate emotional expression and promote psychological relief.Maintenance Specialists – Demonstrate handyman knowledge and experience of general household maintenance and repairs to ensure all is in good working order.End-of-life Doulas – Provide emotional, spiritual, and practical assistance, helping individuals to make informed choices about their care and ensuring that their wishes are honored.
