Volunteer: Special Event VolunteersVolunteering for special events means being a part of a cohesive team that creates positive experiences and memories for the NMCAN community, in particular our young people. Your role might include helping coordinate, set up and work special events, such as Festivus for the Rest of Us and more! Please note that NMCAN events are held indoors and outdoors based on the time of year and weather. Qualifications & Skills Needed: Must be at least 18 years of age to perform duties independently. If under 18 years of age, volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Must be able to work without direct supervision. Must be able to bend, squat, twist and stand for moderate lengths of time. Certain events might also require the ability to lift 20+ pounds. Must be organized, detail oriented and timely. Must be comfortable talking and interacting with the public, young people and other project participants. Must be friendly in demeanor with excellent customer service skills. Must be patient and flexible. Must be encouraging and supportive. Must be tolerant, respectful, embracing of individual differences, and trustworthy.Responsibilities and Duties: Will depend on specific event, but may include: Event day set-up and clean up. Assisting guests with directions and ongoing questions, including registration activities. Leading activities as outlined by NMCAN staff. Volunteer: Financial CoachVolunteers assist young people with goal setting, budgeting, and saving towards developmentally appropriate assets that promote a more stable transition to adulthood. Time commitment: 1 year, 4 hours per month Qualifications and Skills Needed: Must be responsible, committed, and consistent Must enjoy working with young people and have a passion for advocating for their success Must be able to listen and communicate with young people openly and without judgment Must be able to maintain boundaries within your role Must be tolerant, respectful, embracing of individual differences, and trustworthy Must be able to practice problem-solving skills and to suggest options and alternatives, while allowing young people control, voice, and choiceResponsibilities and Roles: Take lead on connecting with your young person on a monthly basis Complete activities with your young person (i.e. prioritizing needs, planning ahead, SMART goal setting, budgeting, reviewing credit scores, supporting him/her in accessing resources). Toolkits and other resources will be provided by NMCAN Support your young person to achieve their goals Serve as a positive role model.
