The City of Albuquerque’s Solid Waste Management Department is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to serve as Event Coordinators for our annual E-Waste Drop-Off Event—a fast-paced, feel-good day of service that helps keep harmful electronics out of our landfill.

This is an active, outdoor volunteer opportunity—perfect for those who like to stay moving and work as part of a team. Volunteers should be comfortable lifting up to 20 lbs. and being on their feet for most of their shift. Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with snacks, drinks, and plenty of breaks to keep you energized.

Big Brothers Big Sisters exists to create positive change in our community by matching youth with adult mentors to build powerful friendships. Volunteers tell us that being a mentor is one of the best experiences that they have ever had. It’s also not as time consuming as they thought it would be.

Our Mentor 2.0 program is tailored for working professionals ages 21+ who hold an associates degree or equivalent work experience (or higher). You will be matched with a high school student at South Valley Academy. Through weekly messages and once-per-month get togethers at the school, you'll help your mentee prepare for high school graduation and develop their college and career readiness!

UVNR is seeking volunteers to support our annual “Around the World in 5K” Fundraiser, a community event that celebrates cultural diversity while raising funds for newcomer families in Albuquerque.

UVNR is a community-led nonprofit that works alongside immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and other newcomer communities to improve access to resources, strengthen leadership, and promote long-term well-being. This event brings together people from many cultures to run, walk, connect, and celebrate. Volunteers are central to making this event possible. Beyond helping with logistics, volunteering is a meaningful way to contribute to a more welcoming and inclusive community.

Your time help create a space where newcomer families feel supported, valued, and connected. I am reaching out to request volunteer support for upcoming events hosted by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation. We are seeking assistance for the following dates and times:

As a Vendor Support volunteer, you will help ensure a smooth and organized experience for participating vendors. Responsibilities include marking and preparing designated vendor spaces, assisting with vendor check-in and providing general support during setup. You may also help answer questions, direct vendors to their assigned areas and assist with additional needs as they arise.

As a Tear Down Crew volunteer, you will play a critical role in closing out the event and restoring the space for the community. Responsibilities include picking up trash, folding and stacking tables and chairs, relocating full trash bins, and assisting with heavier lifting as needed. Your efforts will help ensure the park is returned to a clean, safe and welcoming condition.

This is a very important role that requires teamwork, reliability, and a strong work ethic. Volunteers should be prepared for physical activity, including lifting and carrying items, and working efficiently to wrap up the event.

Volunteers should be comfortable working as part of a team, following directions, and adapting to changing needs during setup.

We are seeking compassionate individuals or groups to create sensory blankets for patients living with Alzheimer’s and dementia in hospice care. These blankets provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and offer tactile stimulation, making a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients.

What Are Sensory Blankets?
Sensory blankets (also called fidget blankets) are designed with various textures, colors, and interactive elements such as zippers, buttons, ribbons, and soft fabrics. They help patients stay calm and engaged by stimulating their senses.

Volunteer/Intern

Assist staff with administrative tasks and/or projects. Tasks may include but are not limited to: filing, data-entry, case file creation, and organization.   

Intern must meet the minimum age requirement of sixteen (16) years and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  

Join us any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9:00am- 5:00pm for a two-hour shift to help support unhoused and low-income pets & their people. We will be preparing pet food for direct street outreach, our community collaborative program and Pet Pantry events. This involves repackaging Cat & Dog food into gallon or quart baggies and labeling them. Additionally, you can also elect to help us inventory and sort donations of pet supplies.

Purpose: To teach children and adults about the history of the written word

Key responsibilities:

Learn one or more areas of the docent curriculum well enough to teach the material to children and adults; help to run activity stations which include hieroglyphic stamps and letter illumination; perform rudimentary typesetting; and operate and clean a replica of a common printing press.

Note:  A background check will be required before you can be scheduled for a shift.

ABQ Ride has nearly 2,700 bus stops citywide, with over 600 featuring shelters, located throughout neighborhoods across Albuquerque. These stops provide a safe and comfortable location for transit riders as they wait for their bus. Each bus stop is a high-visibility point of connection between the City and those who live in it. These are gathering places for hundreds of people every day, and they require regular maintenance and oversight.

With your assistance, we can all help keep our community spaces clean, promote ridership, and encourage alternative/sustainable transportation options. We welcome individuals, families, companies, civic groups, schools, church groups, and youth groups interested in becoming part of the Adopt-A-Stop program. Everyone benefits from this environmentally conscious program – residents, property owners, businesses, visitors, and transit riders.

Our Adopt-A-Stop volunteers are provided with everything they need to safely assist with maintaining their bus stop. These volunteers are also the eyes and ears for our transit department--they have a direct point of contact to notify when additional graffiti and litter removal assistance is required from the city.

Find out what volunteering at the Balloon Museum is all about!  This 1.5-hour session will provide you with background on the museum as well as a clear picture of the expectations and opportunities that go with being a Year-Round Balloon Museum Volunteer.  You will meet some great people and receive a Volunteer Handbook full of information to get you launched!

We will take a quick tour of the museum, so please wear shoes that are comfortable for walking.

After completing this Orientation, you will be free to sign up for general support roles and for additional position training through OneABQVolunteers.

Help us celebrate spring break with a morning of lighter-than-air fun.  In addition to our usual Wednesday morning Stories & Music in the Sky program downstairs, we will have hands-on activities for all ages upstairs.  Volunteers will assist as visitors launch trash-bags with hot air, float their own balloon-based creations at the wind table, and discover the joys of neutral buoyancy with rubber ducks.  It will be a morning of discovery, science, and laughter!

Requires:  standing, bending, and a deep appreciation of pipe cleaners.

This tree planting is organized by Tree New Mexico (TNM) in the Isleta Pueblo (Moonlight Subdivision) on April 25, 2026. Volunteers plant trees with trained Team Leaders who will provide instructions, tools, and maps to the tree planting locations. TNM will give you everything you need to plant trees at the designated location. You will find pre-dug holes, trees, mulch, a hose, and water on site. TNM will also show you how to plant the trees properly.

Please bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and wear closed toe shoes. Please wear your green TNM T-shirt if you have one. We will have some at the Welcome Table, while supplies last.

We will email the location and specific time to meet for sign-in two weeks before the event. This helps us communicate more effectively and limit last minute changes and communication difficulties.

Children 11-years-old and older are welcome to plant with their parent or guardian. Children 15-years-old and older can plant as adults.

The Veterans & Military Affairs Advisory Board advocates for the rights and needs of veterans and military personnel. This includes addressing benefits, healthcare, housing, education, and employment issues. The committee may organize events and activities to honor and recognize the contributions of veterans and active military members. This includes ceremonies, parades, and educational programs to raise awareness about military service. Overall, the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee in Albuquerque plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the quality of life for veterans, military personnel, and their families, ensuring they receive the recognition, resources, and services they deserve.

The Small Business Regulatory Advisory Commission is a body that focuses on assisting small businesses by addressing regulatory issues and providing support to ensure a favorable business environment. The commission advises the city government on the impact of existing and proposed regulations on small businesses. The Older Americans Act Advisory Council (OAAAC) advises the city's Department of Senior Affairs on issues and policies affecting older adults in the community. The council advises the Area Agency on Aging on developing and administering the "Area Plan," conducting public hearings, and representing the interests of older persons. It reviews and comments on all community policies, programs, and actions affecting older persons to ensure maximum coordination and responsiveness. Additionally, the council reviews and comments on Area Plans and amendments submitted to the State Agency on Aging for approval of programs and services within the County.

The Albuquerque Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is a group of young people who provide advice and input to the city's mayor and other officials on issues affecting youth in the community. The council advises the mayor and city officials on policies, programs, and initiatives that impact young people. This includes providing insights on issues such as education, public safety, health, and recreational activities.

The Landmarks and Urban Conservation Commission (LUCC) is a municipal body responsible for preserving and protecting the city's historic, architectural, and cultural resources. The commission identifies, designates, and protects historic landmarks and districts within Albuquerque. The commission advises the Mayor, Council, and the Environmental Planning Commission on any proposed public improvements that would impact the exterior appearance of landmarks or significant structures in historic protection overlay zones

The Indicators Progress Commission (IPC) is a citizen group that focuses on tracking and analyzing key indicators of community well-being and progress. The commission collects and analyzes data on various indicators of community well-being, such as education, public health, economic development, public safety, and environmental sustainability. This involves compiling data from multiple sources, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and research institutions

The City’s Housing and Neighborhood Economic Development Fund (HNEDF) improves the quality of life within the Pocket of Poverty (POP) through housing & economic development projects. Members must be residents or business representatives of the Pocket of Poverty

Greater Albuquerque Recreational Trails Committee (GARTC) members advise the City on developing and maintaining trail networks throughout Albuquerque and the metropolitan region. Members also review plans and projects that will impact trails and help update and fulfill the objectives of the Trails and Bikeways Facility Plan.

Greater Albuquerque Active Transportation Committee (GAATC) members advise the City on facilities for people who walk, bike, use mobility devices, and access transit ("active transportation users"). The committee advises the city government on policies, plans, and projects related to active transportation. This includes providing input on infrastructure projects like bike lanes, pedestrian pathways, and other facilities that support walking and biking.

The EMS Providers Advisory Committee assists the Medical Control Board in performing its duties through advice and consultation. The committee recommends EMS-related issues to the City of Albuquerque, particularly to the Albuquerque Fire Rescue and other relevant departments. Help us clean up a well traveled stretch of historic Route 66 making it shine ahead of the Route 66 Centennial and welcoming the surge of visitors with pride!  We will meet at the Route 66 Visitor Center at 12300 Central Ave SW, meet for a quick safety briefing and then take a bus east on Central to a work area. Volunteers play an important role in assisting the Library to offer our services to the community on a continuing basis—and our teen volunteers are no exception!

Teen volunteers are selected based upon their qualifications, enthusiasm, and the needs of the Library at any given time.

While we appreciate every person who wishes to volunteer at the Library, opportunities are sometimes limited. Please be aware that we may not have a volunteer position available at this time that suits your interests and abilities. If you are accepted as a volunteer, we may ask you to alter your duties to meet the changing needs of the Library. Additionally, if your work is no longer necessary or proves unsatisfactory, you may be released.

Our teen volunteers have great ideas for community activities (especially for youth)! Besides the opportunities listed above, if you have another idea for an activity you think your branch Library could benefit from that you could volunteer for, let us know. At various branches, we have activities like chess club, storytimes for younger children, science programs, book clubs (in various languages)—the list goes on! You are welcome to talk to the Youth Volunteer Coordinator at your local Library to discuss what's possible.

A criminal background check will be required. City policy requires anyone who wishes to volunteer at the Library to consent to the performance of a background investigation by an outside agency. There is no cost to you.

You will also be asked to complete a short interview with the branch's Volunteer Coordinator.

Sunday April 19th, 26.  Volunteers will be greeters, making sure the tour runs smoothly, setting up (putting signs up, clearing signs etc.) and assisting guests with any questions they may have.  You will be in one of the ABQ Mid Mod Home Tour homes. 2 shifts available.  9:45AM-12PM or 11:45AM-2:30PM.  

There will be a lead docent in each home to assist you.  As appreciation for your time, you will receive a complimentary ticket to the Eames Film on Saturday April 18th at 1PM-3PM, as well as be able to tour the Mid Century Homes before/after your shift.  You will also receive a ABQ Mid Mod Home Tour T-shirt to wear.  This is a fun, community event for those who love art, architecture and MCM.  Please join us for this fabulous event!       

We need a few friendly faces to volunteer as Hospitality Volunteers. Hospitality Volunteers help set up and serve a light meal, and then help clean up afterwards. The time commitment is 1 hour, twice per month -- from September to May. You will be needed from 5:15-6:15pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening, or 11:15am-12:15pm on Wednesday. about every other week, from September through May.

Volunteer Bereavement Facilitators are the backbone of our program. They lead grief support groups for children, teens, or adults at the Center for Hope and Healing in Albuquerque. Facilitators are trained, teamed up with an experienced facilitator, and supported by our staff. Facilitators are from all backgrounds and don't need experience in support groups or counseling. As one of our volunteers wrote, “This is the most rewarding thing I do.” The time commitment is approximately 3.5 hours twice a month for one service year (September to May), after completing the initial training. Volunteers will be assisting us with the support and management of the collection and sorting of the compostable, recyclable, and trash during and post-event. This is a very important role for this sustainability-focused event! We will be partnering with Little Green Bucket.

The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is looking for Year-Round Volunteers to welcome visitors and help ensure they have a positive experience as they explore our exhibits. You do not have to be a balloon expert to start. Requirements:  New volunteers are required to complete an initial 2-hour orientation where you will receive a general overview of how the museum works and learn more about the roles available for volunteers.  Once you have completed the orientation, you are eligible to attend training sessions and enrichment opportunities throughout the year.

STEAM Night at the Balloon Museum is a special evening event for curious minds of all ages.  This month's theme will be Balloon Building: Fabrication and Beyond. 

Visitors will explore the how-tos of building a balloon in the 21st century and learn about new technology being developed by local enthusiasts to help balloons fly higher, farther and smarter. There will be music, a food truck, make & take balloon-themed crafts, a tinkering activity, lectures, presentations, and more.

Volunteers will act as greeters, activity assistants, and hosts for our interactive Elevation Station. The event goes from 5:30-7:30pm.  Volunteers should arrive as close to 5 as possible and plan to stay for a quick clean up.

We are in search of a volunteer who is a self-starter, has a valid driver's license and driver's insurance, and who has consistent access to a vehicle.

This volunteer would be transporting hardback books, and occasionally assemble metal storage racks to store said books. The books are stored in cardboard boxes that weigh ~20 pounds.

Volunteers are needed to coordinate with Laundry Love, a local volunteer organization we partner with that goes to laundromats and provides soap, quarters, dryer sheets, etc. for disadvantaged patrons. 

Volunteers are needed to hang activity posters inside of various laundromats throughout Albuquerque. 

We need a volunteer to restock our Read to Me! book shelves posted at various laundromats throughout the city.

We are in need of someone who can write thank you cards for our volunteers, partners, and members of our community.

This is a remote volunteer opportunity that anyone can do from home. 

Someone else will pick up  and deliver the thank you cards that are written. 

Teen volunteers are a vital part of our summer programming. Volunteers help with all types of work, from signing up participants, to stamping Summer Reading Logs, and handing out weekly prizes. They may also be asked to help with the day-to-day business of the library, as well as contributing their own special skills on an as-needed basis. Our program's mission is to utilize community volunteers to assist the Albuquerque Police Department in improving the quality of life in our community. 

Even though volunteers are not commissioned with sworn officer status, the duties that you will perform as part of the Department’s support staff are crucial to the Department. Sworn officers and civilian employees handle some of the administrative tasks with which you will be involved. By assisting with these tasks, you are releasing officers to handle higher priority calls for service, assisting civilian employees which will help them to serve in a pro-active capacity in the community. We sincerely appreciate your willingness to become part of the Volunteer Services team.

We have an amazing museum at the Main police station that we re-opened in January 2022.  We are looking for a few volunteers to learn the history of the Police Department.  Our Museum is open Monday - Thursday from 10am – 2pm. Training is available so you will be able to provide tours when requested and maintain the museum during your shift. Requirements for the Chaplain program:

* Must be ecclesiastically certified and/or endorsed, ordained, licensed, or commissioned by a recognized religious body.

* Must have at least 2 years of successful ministry experience within a recognized ministry, church or religious denomination.

* Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's License and obtain a City of Albuquerque Driver's Permit within 2 months of appointment.

* Minimum two years of pastoral experience.

* Actively engaged in pastoral care.

* Recommendation from their church elders, board, or council.

* Resident of New Mexico for a minimum of one year.

Responsibilities

* Respond to requests made by the Communications supervisors or dispatchers. 
* Assist officers by making death notifications or such other notifications as may be requested. 
* Assist at scenes of trauma by counseling and assisting victims, friends, family members, and others as requested by officers; notify victim’s own clergy or other support persons. 
* Respond to requests for support to department personnel and families. 
* Is willing to be on call. 
* Prepare a report for each incident of service. 
* Meet ongoing training requirements. 
* Participate fully in activities of the Unit. 
* Assist Department officials in making notifications to families of officers receiving serious injury or upon death of a Department member. 
* Participate in ride-a-longs in order to become acquainted with the stressors experienced by Department personnel in the performance of their duties. 
* Maintain an influence/presence that fosters the highest ethical conduct among employees. 
* Provide liaison with other religious leaders in the community. 
* Foster public confidence and support by attending civic events and being available during periods of heightened public interest.

On the third Friday of every month, NM Street Pet Project, in partnership with The Storehouse, NM, provides a free Pet Pantry for unhoused and low income pets. Join us to help distribute pet food and supplies to those in need. This is a great opportunity to connect with and support the community. Pet Pantry officially runs from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please plan to arrive by 8:30am. Sometimes the Pet Pantry runs a little longer (until 1:00 - 1:30pm) as we serve the folks who checked in at 12:00. We can accommodate an early departure, if needed. 

On the third Thursday of each month, we meet to prepare for our pet food and supply distribution that occurs the following day at The Storehouse, NM. Join us at our warehouse facility to package pet food & treats and organize supplies for distribution the following day.

Read to the Dogs is a program sponsored by the Public Library Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Handlers bring their registered pet therapy dogs into the library and provide children with an opportunity to read aloud. The registered pet therapy dog sits calmly and quietly for a story, creating a relaxing atmosphere for children. This gives children an opportunity to practice their reading skills without fear or judgment. The adults do not correct a child’s reading. Parents may sit quietly in the room with their child or take this moment to find a book and read just outside the program area. You can read more about it here.

The Public Library is pleased to provide this nationally recognized program to our families. In a 10 week study by the University of California, researchers found a 12 percent increase in reading fluency by one group and no improvement by the group that didn't read to dogs. It was reported by 75 percent of the parents that their children read aloud more frequently and with greater confidence after reading to the dogs. Children who practice reading have greater success in school and children who feel successful go on to read at higher grade levels. The Public Library hopes through this program children will relate to reading in a positive way and become lifelong readers.

All dogs in this program are trained and registered in a dog therapy group. All Read to the Dog volunteers must belong to one of the following groups:

After completing the testing and registration process with one of the therapy groups listed above, you will need to upload the relevant documentation. This includes a copy of the membership card or certificate from one of the above organizations; and a current health form from one of the above listed organizations (proof of rabies vaccination is included on this form). 

Additionally, you as a handler will need to pass a criminal background check and receive a Certificate of Compliance from library admin. Furthermore, the Certificate of Compliance can be completed by contacting the Library Admin at this email address: bwolff@cabq.gov. 

City policy requires anyone who wishes to volunteer at the Library to consent to the performance of a background investigation by an outside agency. There is no cost to you.

A new volunteer may not participate in the Program until you have been approved. After approval, you may participate in the Read to the Dogs program at any of the eleven (11) participating Libraries. Please note that teams from the other agencies may be present at the same time you are.

Ambassadors help riders feel confident navigating the ABQ RIDE transit system with schedule, timing and directional information while also educating about transit apps like SEE SAY, ABQ RIDE GO!, and the Transit App. This service promotes safety and good customer service. They serve as a welcoming presence on buses and at transit centers, and their support improves efficiency, reduces confusion, and fosters a sense of community among passengers. Whether helping with route information, directional assistance, or offering a friendly smile, ABQ RIDE Ambassadors make public transit more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Ambassadors must be confident in their duties and environment. For this purpose, we have designed a comprehensive training to help you will the appropriate skills that will help you deal with any situation that may arise. We are conducting in-person training at the Alvarado Transportation Center at Central and 1st Street. With six different programs, training takes two days of four hours each for completion. When you are qualified to respond to this opportunity, you will get access to more detailed information and scheduling availability for the training. Initial spots for the program launch are limited. If you don't receive training information soon, you will in the near future. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

Casa San Ysidro: The Gutiérrez/Minge House is now recruiting volunteer tour guides for 2026! Join our team of volunteer guides to give public tours, teach students on field trips, and/or help to run our programming throughout the year! We are especially looking for Guides with Spanish-language, Native American or Farm and Ranch heritages to enrich the experience of school groups and other visitors.

If you are interested in joining our excellent team of guides, please reach out to Casa San Ysidro Site Manager, Aaron Gardner, at agardner@cabq.gov, or call our office at 505-768-4917. You may begin volunteering at any time after you are interviewed, but completion of the Spring Guide Training - held on three consecutive Saturdays in April, 9:00am to 12:00pm - is required in order to start giving tours or continue staffing events. A photo release waiver is required for the trainings; after trainings if you wish to continue on as a guide you will need to complete a background check.

About the museum:

The c. 1875 Gutiérrez family adobe home, restored and expanded by Dr. Ward Alan and Shirley Minge, combines traditional building techniques and architectural features that evoke New Mexico's Spanish Colonial and Mexican past. Located in the farming village of Corrales, just north of Albuquerque, the museum is listed on the State Register of Cultural Properties and El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail. Casa San Ysidro is an official site of the Albuquerque Museum.

Like helping behind the scenes?  We'd love your help folding t-shirts and organizing our blood drive supplies.  Volunteers can pick a flexible schedule weekdays between 9 am to 5 pm.  An easy way to give a few hours of time and help us get organized.

Vitalant is the nation’s largest independent, nonprofit organization focused exclusively on providing lifesaving blood services. We have a network of about 120 donation centers across the U.S. and host approximately 60,000 blood drives annually. Vitalant provides blood and special services to patients in about 900 hospitals across the U.S. – millions of people depend on blood donations from our generous volunteer donors.

Friendly, courteous volunteers ages 16 yrs+ needed to greet arriving donors at our donation center.  Help restock the refreshments area and keep an eye on donor well-being after their donation.

Flexible schedule, can choose weekly or monthly shifts.

Our shelter receives many donations on a daily basis.  We need assistance in receiving, sorting and distributing shelter and pet food pantry donations for the pets.

Get your kitten and puppy fix here! Feed the bottle babies in the clinic and give them snuggles. You will need to take the neonate care course (linked below) and shadow with one of the senior nursery volunteers. This opportunity has set shifts so we can be sure the puppies and kittens are cared for daily.
