We’re requesting the help of amazing volunteers to make Roots Summer Leadership Academy a hit this summer! We need assistance with load-in/set-up for the camp, support in putting on the Harambee celebration (a performance marking the end of camp), and load-out/tear down on the last day of camp.

Roots Summer Leadership Academy (RSLA) is a fun, rigorous and FREE 3-week enrichment summer camp designed for youth ages 8 – 16 in the Albuquerque area. It is facilitated annually by the New Mexico Black Leadership Council.

We are seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to join our Hospice Vigil Volunteer Team—a special group dedicated to ensuring that no one faces the end of life alone.

As a vigil volunteer, you provide a calm, comforting presence for patients and their families during their final hours. This may include sitting quietly at the bedside, offering gentle reassurance, or simply being there so families can rest knowing their loved one is not alone.

Your presence can bring peace, dignity, and comfort in a person’s final moments—and provide immeasurable support to families when they need it most.

All volunteers receive training and ongoing support from our hospice team. You are never alone in this work—you are part of a caring, dedicated community.

Calling all fixers, makers, and repair pros — we need coaches for our Summer FixIt Clinic!

Keep Albuquerque Beautiful, in partnership with Fuse Makerspace, is gearing up for our next Summer FixIt Clinic on Saturday, August 8, and we’re looking for skilled volunteers to help community members bring their broken items back to life.

At the FixIt Clinic, residents bring household items like bikes, electronics, small appliances, sewing projects, jewelry, and more to learn how to repair them alongside experienced coaches. It’s a hands-on opportunity to share skills, reduce waste, keep usable items out of the landfill, and help build a more sustainable Albuquerque.

Our last clinic welcomed nearly 100 participants and helped repair almost 200 items—and we’re excited to make this summer’s event even bigger.

If you have experience with sewing, woodworking, leatherwork, electronics, small appliances, jewelry repair, or general fixing and troubleshooting, we’d love to have you join us as a coach.

What do SRP volunteers do?

Teen volunteers are a vital part of our summer programming.  Volunteers help with all types of work, from signing up participants, to stamping Summer Reading Logs, and handing out weekly prizes. They may also be asked to help with the day-to-day business of the library, as well as contributing their own special skills on an as-needed basis. Volunteers should be prepared to attend a mandatory orientation and to work a minimum of one shift per week for the duration of the library’s Summer Reading Program which runs May 30th through July 25th. With the exception of preplanned time needed for previously scheduled events.

Special events are where our volunteers will really shine.  Volunteers may help with offering and/or assisting during arts & crafts or story time programs, helping with setting up and tearing down, and with generating publicity by sharing information about our events. Teen volunteers play an important role at the Library during the busy summer schedule.

What do I need to become a SRP volunteer?

All volunteers must be able to attend an orientation session in order to be considered for the SRP volunteer program. If you cannot attend one of the the orientation dates (Saturday May 23 @3 or Wednesday May 27th @5), please contact Ms. Sara or Ms. Anna at 291-6264.

City policy requires background checks for anyone aged 13+ before being considered to volunteer for the Library. There is no cost to the applicant. Background checks must clear before volunteers attend orientation in order to volunteer during the program.

 Your background check must be approved before you can sign up for a shift.

Big Brothers Big Sisters exists to create positive change in our community by matching youth with adult mentors to build powerful friendships. Volunteers tell us that being a mentor is one of the best experiences that they have ever had. It’s also not as time consuming as they thought it would be!

Our Mentor 2.0 program is tailored for working professionals ages 21+ who hold an associates degree or equivalent work experience (or higher). You will be matched with a high school student at South Valley Academy. Through weekly messages and once-per-month get togethers at the school, you'll help your mentee prepare for high school graduation and develop their college and career readiness!

In the Mentor 2.0 program;

Native Health Initiative is seeking volunteers to help on race day for the Christmas in July 5k/10k/half marathon. Volunteers will help check in runners before the race and distribute their bibs/t-shirts and staff water stations.

NAMI Albuquerque is looking for fun, friendly, and community-minded volunteers to help us connect with people throughout Albuquerque at outreach events, health fairs, awareness activities, tabling events, and community gatherings. Volunteers help share mental health resources, spread hope and awareness, welcome community members, and help people learn they are not alone. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy meeting people, being active in the community, supporting mental health advocacy, and helping create positive and welcoming experiences wherever NAMI Albuquerque shows up. Position Information: Greeters welcome visitors to STEAM Night and circulate throughout the museum to monitor activity, answer questions, and help people feel welcome at this family-friendly event.

Considerations: STEAM Night volunteers may spend a lot of time on their feet, moving around to interact with visitors.

Position Information:  Activity Assistants create a welcoming, supportive environment for visitors by encouraging participation in hands-on activities.  These range from STEAM experiments to craft projects.  Volunteers demonstrate, answer questions, keep the space tidy, replenish materials, and clean up after participants as needed.  They assist with simple set up and clean up before and after the event.

Considerations: Continuous standing, walking, and bending required inside and potentially outside of the museum around the STEAM night activity stations.

***This position is only open to experienced Balloon Museum volunteers***

Position Information: Shift Support Leaders circulate throughout the Museum as the main point of contact and support for all volunteers on shifts where the Volunteer Coordinator is not available. They check in with volunteers, fill in as needed for short breaks, and serve as liaison between the volunteers and the staff Manager on Duty to troubleshoot minor issues. Shift Support may also be asked to oversee volunteer check-in/outs for their shift.

Considerations: This position involves continuous walking around both inside and outside the Balloon Museum and entails a level of responsibility beyond other volunteer positions.

Position Information: Individuals who enjoy working with young children and interacting with the public are invited to volunteer in this position. Hosts welcome visitors to the interactive Elevation Station, demonstrate and answer questions, and kindly ensure that exhibit interactives are being handled appropriately.  Hosts restock materials as necessary and coordinate with Museum staff to troubleshoot technical issues in the exhibit, if needed. Position Information: Museum Greeters welcome visitors warmly as they enter and circulate within the Balloon Museum. They offer directional information, provide low-key guidance, and answer general questions about the museum and Fiesta. We will provide you with plenty of training and information. This position offers a great opportunity to meet people from all around the world!

Specific stations will be assigned at the start of each shift and may rotate to meet the needs of the moment. We are hoping to have 6 Greeters on each shift to allow for optimum flexibility.

Considerations: Continuous standing and mobility required inside and occasionally outside the museum. Accommodations can be made for periodic seating if physical conditions require. Breaks provided during each shift.

Volunteers should come with closed toed shoes and be able to move/lift 10-30 pounds. Volunteers should RSVP which date(s) they can help to sonya@keshetarts.org.

Our program's mission is to utilize College Interns assist the Albuquerque Police Department in improving the quality of life in our community. 

 Even though Interns are not commissioned with sworn officer status, the duties that you will perform as part of the Department’s support staff are crucial to the Department. Sworn officers and civilian employees handle some of the administrative tasks with which you will be involved. By assisting with these tasks, you are releasing officers to handle higher priority calls for service, assisting civilian employees which will help them to serve in a pro-active capacity in the community.

An Internship with APD is an opportunity for those who are interested in Law Enforcement to find more out about APD.  The Internship program also gives APD a chance to recruit these individuals to our agency.

NAMI Albuquerque is seeking Volunteer Grant Writers to help expand mental health education, support programs, advocacy efforts, and community outreach throughout New Mexico.

As a Volunteer Grant Writer, you will work alongside our Grant Writing Team to research funding opportunities, gather information, help answer grant questions, and assist with developing proposals that support NAMI Albuquerque's mission.

Grant writing is more than seeking funding. It is helping tell the story of our community, our programs, and the individuals and families we serve. Your efforts can help connect NAMI Albuquerque with organizations that want to invest in mental health services and community support.

NAMI Albuquerque is excited to support the second annual FaithNet Conference: Pathways to Hope, taking place on August 21–22, 2026.

This conference brings together faith communities, mental health advocates, individuals with lived experience, family members, professionals, and community partners to promote hope, education, support, and connection. The event is part of a larger national FaithNet initiative taking place in communities across the country.

We are currently seeking volunteers who may be interested in helping before and during the conference. While volunteer assignments and shifts are still being finalized, we would like to begin building our volunteer team early.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness Walks are the easiest way to introduce people to suicide prevention education and advocacy. The Walks are an opportunity to find a supportive community of people who get it, to know you're not alone, and to make a difference together.

All Out of the Darkness Walks are planned by volunteers, and we are looking for people interested in helping plan this year's Albuquerque walk! Currently we meet on the first Tuesday of the month virtually, and provide updates for the walk planning. The amount of volunteering hours is entirely dependent on the requirements per category volunteer.

Barrett Foundation is looking for helping hands in our shelter kitchen. If you enjoy pitching in and want to make a difference for our shelter guests, we’d love your help any day of the week!

At this market, you'll have the chance to work alongside passionate vendors, farmers, and artisans who are dedicated to bringing fresh, healthy food and unique, handcrafted goods to the community. As a volunteer, you'll play an important role in making the market a success, from assisting with merchandise and coffee sales to helping with the bike valet. We also welcome any ideas that you may want to do at the market.

Teen volunteers are a vital part of our summer programming. Volunteers help with all types of work, from signing up participants, to stamping Summer Reading Logs, and handing out weekly prizes. They may also be asked to help with the day-to-day business of the library, as well as contributing their own special skills on an as-needed basis. Volunteers should be prepared to attend a mandatory orientation and to work a minimum of one shift per week for the duration of the library’s Summer Reading Program which runs May 30th through July 25th.

Special events are where our volunteers will really shine. Volunteers may help with offering and/or assisting during arts & crafts or story time programs, helping with setting up and tearing down, and with generating publicity by sharing information about our events. Teen volunteers play an important role at the Library during the busy summer schedule.  

All volunteers must be able to attend an orientation session in order to be considered for the SRP volunteer program. If you cannot attend the orientation date, please contact Chris Warner at cwarner@cabq.gov.

Do you like working with individuals with disabilities?  This position will be assisting our riders when necessary to accomplish the tasks involved in grooming, tacking, mounting, dismounting, and riding in the arena.  You must be able to assist riders during an emergency dismount, if needed.  You should be healthy and strong enough to lift at least 50 lbs and walk or trot beside a horse for a minimum of 30 minutes.  This job requires you to be physically fit and free of back and shoulder challenges.  Your personal well-being is important to us, too.  You will be asked to help with stall maintenance, as well.

Some riders need two sidewalkers per lesson.

The Feline Right at Home Program is designed to help shy, fearful, under-socialized, or behaviorally stressed cats become more comfortable with people and better prepared for adoption. Volunteers in this specialized role receive training in feline behavior modification (bmod) techniques and low-stress handling strategies used in shelter environments. Participants learn how to read feline body language, recognize stress signals, build trust through choice-based interactions, use positive reinforcement and enrichment tools, and apply confidence-building exercises tailored to each cat’s needs. Volunteers also learn techniques for reducing fear, encouraging engagement, and creating positive associations with human interaction. Through calm, consistent sessions, volunteers play a critical role in improving cats’ emotional wellbeing, quality of life, and adoptability while documenting behavioral progress and sharing observations with staff.

As the first personal contact visitors have upon entering the Balloon Museum, Greeters play a vital role in creating a positive experience for our guests. If you are interested in offering a warm welcome and becoming more familiar with the wonderful world of ballooning, please attend this interactive training session, which will qualify you to become an official Balloon Museum Greeter.

This training is for volunteers who have completed a New Volunteer Orientation at the Balloon Museum.  We ask Greeters to work at least one 3 hour shift a month and commit to a regularly recurring shift.  Join us!

STEAM Night at the Balloon Museum is a special evening event for curious minds of all ages.  This month's theme will be Route 66. 

Visitors will get to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and our newest exhibit, Balloons Over Route 66, through a variety of of activities and presentations. There will be music, a food truck, make & take balloon-themed crafts, interactive robots provided by R4 Creating, lectures, balloons on the back lawn, and more.

Volunteers will act as greeters and activity assistants throughout the museum, welcoming guests and helping out at interactive and hands-on activity stations. The event goes from 5:30-7:30pm.  Volunteers should arrive as close to 5 as possible and plan to stay for a quick clean up.

2026 Summer Reading Program Teen Volunteer (Ages 13-18)

What do I need to become a SRP volunteer?

Teens will need their own email separate from their parent or guardian's email.

 Schedule: The summer reading volunteer program runs from May 30th until July 25th with a bonus volunteer opportunity on August 1st. The Ernie Pyle Library is open Tuesday-Saturday 10:00am- 6:00pm.  We would love if volunteers could work a minimum of one shift per week for the duration of the library’s Summer Reading Program, but we are very flexible and will work with your schedule.

Special events are where our volunteers will really shine. Volunteers may be asked for assistance during arts & crafts or storytime programs, helping with setting up and tearing down, and with sharing information about our events. The Ernie Pyle Library is not ADA accessible because the historic building and grounds include steps, narrow passages, and small spaces. The building was Ernie and Jerry Pyle’s 1,129 square foot home built in 1940. It is a National Historic Landmark and it is on the State, City and National registers of historic places. The closest ADA accessible Libraries include the San Pedro Library, South Broadway Library and International District Library.

The Gateway Center is a one-stop hub providing low-barrier shelter, compassionate care, and wraparound services—including medical, behavioral health, and housing navigation—to help individuals experiencing homelessness transition to stable housing and improved well-being.

Volunteers play a vital role in creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for guests. Our low-barrier model focuses on meeting people where they are by reducing common obstacles to accessing shelter and services, ensuring dignity and accessibility for all.

Volunteers help meet immediate needs while also supporting guests on their path toward housing, health, and stability.

Join us any Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9:00am- 5:00pm for a two-hour shift to help support unhoused and low-income pets & their people. We will be preparing pet food for direct street outreach, our community collaborative program and Pet Pantry events. This involves repackaging Cat & Dog food into gallon or quart baggies and labeling them. Additionally, you can also elect to help us inventory and sort donations of pet supplies.

On the third Thursday of each month, we meet to prepare for our pet food and supply distribution that occurs the following day at The Storehouse, NM. Join us at our warehouse facility to package pet food & treats and organize supplies for distribution the following day. 

On the third Friday of every month, NM Street Pet Project, in partnership with The Storehouse, NM, provides a free Pet Pantry for unhoused and low income pets. Join us to help distribute pet food and supplies to those in need. This is a great opportunity to connect with and support the community. Pet Pantry officially runs from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please plan to arrive by 8:30am. Sometimes the Pet Pantry runs a little longer (until 1:00 - 1:30pm) as we serve the folks who checked in at 12:00. We can accommodate an early departure, if needed. 

The TLCc needs volunteer tutors to meet with students on a weekly basis. Volunteer tutors act as one-on-one mentors in English as a Second Language, Basic Literacy, Math, and Sciences. Individuals with lived experience who are interested in becoming trained NAMI facilitators or presenters for support groups and educational programs. Requirements include attending groups prior to training, completing a 2-day training, and being willing to follow NAMI program guidelines.

 ​Facilitating groups is not providing therapy. Facilitators help create safe, supportive  peer environments where individuals with similar experiences can share what they have been through,  discuss what has helped them, and support one another in their wellness journeys.  Facilitators participate as peers, not experts.

NAMI Albuquerque is looking for creative and community-minded volunteers interested in helping capture photos and videos during outreach events, Meet & Greets, volunteer activities, community gatherings, fundraising events, and special programs throughout the year. Volunteers on this team help document meaningful moments, support storytelling efforts, highlight volunteer engagement, and help strengthen NAMI Albuquerque’s social media presence and community outreach efforts. Pet waste left on sidewalks, streets, and lawns washes into storm drains and then to the nearest water body without treatment. Pet waste pollutes surface water by contributing harmful bacteria and nutrients impacting water. The solution is easy, pick up pet waste and dispose of it properly! Help be a part of the solution, volunteer for the Park Management Mutt Mitt Program. It only takes a few minutes of your time to volunteer to refill mutt mitt stations in your neighborhood park. This program has been very successful in keeping our City beautiful and encourages dog owners to clean up after their pets and allows them a convenient and sanitary way of properly disposing of their dog waste. It’s easy, just complete the online volunteer registration and Park Management will supply you with bags and a key.
