Volunteer: Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Park Adopt-a-Park

When you adopt Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Park, you're adopting a snapshot of America. Not only is this park dedicated to our patriotic service members, but it's also a hub for the all-American pastime of baseball. Show your love for our country and our service members by adopting this park.

Community organizations, businesses, and private citizens may adopt a park. The program is flexible enough to allow organizations, business or individuals to choose a location and level of commitment that works best for them, their family, or their staff. The best part—you can adopt a park in your neighborhood!

Contribute directly to the beautification of our City, starting with the area that matters most to you! Volunteering in City of Albuquerque parks is a great way to help our community shine!

Parks can be adopted collaboratively, or by a single family or organization. Families and organizations that adopt a park in-whole (with a minimum commitment of two years) will be recognized with the placement of a sign in the park to recognize and celebrate their contribution.

Parks are a place for everyone to enjoy, and the maintenance of our parks are a place for everyone to pitch in. Even if you don’t commit to adopt a park for two years, you can still sign up here to log the hours you spend doing your part to keep Albuquerque beautiful.

This program provides volunteers with excellent opportunities to gain valuable work experience, make a connection with the community, and meet new people. Plus, you can bring your family and pets to accompany you in your project.

Volunteering in City Parks

We offer plenty of rewarding volunteer opportunities for individuals, small groups, and large groups. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us, if you would like to collaborate with us for your project. We have all the tools—we just need your time and energy.

Volunteer tasks in parks include:

Trash pickup
Weed removal
Raking sand boxes
Sweeping walkways/sidewalks
Cleaning/weeding of flower beds
Cleaning/wiping of playground equipment

Volunteer: Dog Walking - East Side

Daily walks and exercise help more rescue and shelter dogs find forever homes by giving them physical and mental stimulation and teaching them valuable skills such as socialization and leash etiquette. They also enjoy your attention and the opportunity to get some fresh air.

Every pooch needs physical exercise, and shelter dogs are no exception. In fact, structured walking programs at shelters and rescues help make dogs more adoptable by giving them exercise and stimulation, teaching them about leash etiquette, providing them with opportunities to bond with humans and to work on basic skills such as loose leash walking and sit.

This Dog walking opportunity involves walking the dogs who have a blue or green dot located on their kennel card. Each dog taken out should get at least a half hour of your time, if possible.

To be able to respond to this opportunity you have to had gone through the Dog Handling online training, the Hands-on Dog Behavior in person class, at least one Dog Shadowing session and have had uploaded the correct certificates for each of these qualifications.

Do you want to learn more and handle the next level of dogs? For a more comprehensive list of our opportunities divided by pet, listings of the trainings needed to volunteer and all of the details about how to continue your volunteering process with us, please visit www.oneabqvolunteers.com/awd

Volunteer: Defend Potential by Mentoring (Mentor 2.0 Program) Hybrid

Youth in our community have an abundance of potential - they just need someone in their corner to help them realize it! There are hundreds of kids in New Mexico who are waiting for a mentor who will stand with them and help them ignite their potential.

Big Brothers Big Sisters exists to create positive change in our community by matching youth with adult mentors to build powerful friendships. Volunteers tell us that being a mentor is one of the best experiences that they have ever had. It’s also not as time consuming as they thought it would be.

Our Mentor 2.0 program is tailored for working professionals ages 21+ who hold an associates degree or equivalent work experience (or higher). You will be matched with a high school student at South Valley Academy. Through weekly messages and once-per-month get togethers at the school, you'll help your mentee prepare for high school graduation and develop their college and career readiness.

In the Mentor 2.0 program;

We ask that mentors message their mentees at least once a week (using a secure, online platform) and commit to volunteering for at least a year. You will get together with your mentee once every 4 to 6 weeks at their high school for an evening event that is organized and hosted by BBBS staff. You are not alone in this. Your Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Match Support Specialist and a network of volunteers will be there with resources, opportunities and support.

Interview, training, and a background check will be required.

Please provide phone number and email address so we can confirm your interest.

Volunteer: Los Altos Park - mutt mitt volunteer

No one wants to see pet waste where they walk or play. Did you know that in addition to being a nuisance, pet waste is also a significant pollutant found in storm water runoff? Pet waste left on sidewalks, streets, and lawns washes into storm drains and then to the nearest water body without treatment. Pet waste pollutes surface water by contributing harmful bacteria and nutrients impacting water. The solution is easy, pick up pet waste and dispose of it properly! Help be a part of the solution, volunteer for the Park Management Mutt Mitt Program. It only takes a few minutes of your time to volunteer to refill mutt mitt stations in your neighborhood park. This program has been very successful in keeping our City beautiful and encourages dog owners to clean up after their pets and allows them a convenient and sanitary way of properly disposing of their dog waste. It’s easy, just complete the online volunteer registration and Park Management will supply you with bags and a key.

Volunteer: Santa Fe Village Park Adopt-a-Park

Grab a book at the Taylor Ranch Public Library, put on your hiking shoes for a stroll around nearby Petroglyph National Monument, let your pups roam in the dog park, bring the kids to the playground, AND adopt Santa Fe Village Park to keep all these things clean and accessible! What more could you want from a volunteer opportunity!
