Help us deliver care and connection to pets and people in need. Each Friday morning, Vets for Pets teams up with volunteers to provide dog and cat food, water, and basic pet supplies to low-income and unhoused pet owners in the International District.

We meet at 500 Wisconsin Street NE at 8:00 AM to load supplies, then transport them to the International District Library (7601 Central Avenue NE) for distribution from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Volunteers wrap up by 11:00 AM.

Our Volunteer Crisis Advocates are very important here at the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico (RCC).  As a volunteer, your most important job will be staffing/covering the 24/7 Crisis Hotline. All volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to:

Hotline (via a cell phone provided by RCC) Shadowing and assisting our advocates as they support survivors with: Law enforcement accompaniments Court hearings Post-rape medical exams (SANE : Sexual Assault Nurse Examinations) Other case management tasks like walking survivors through what is and how to complete restraining orders Community outreach Tabling events where we can get information out about our program (i.e. Comic Con, brewery events, schools, universities, and anywhere else we’re invited to). Resource Compilation (we are presently researching and compiling resources in order to create a book that survivors can keep and reference as needed).

RCC requires a 40-hour training that will provide you with the Advocacy training as well as a Certificate from the NACP (National Advocate Credentialing Program).   We provide this excellent training free of charge to Volunteer Advocates.

For this purpose, we have designed a comprehensive training to help you will the appropriate skills that will help you deal with any situation that may arise. Initially we will be conducting in-person training at the David Rusk facility on Yale at St. Cyr. With 6 different modules, training will take 2 days of 4 hours each for completion. ABQ Ride has nearly 2,700 bus stops citywide, with over 600 featuring shelters, located throughout neighborhoods across Albuquerque. These stops provide a safe and comfortable location for bus riders as they wait for their ride. Each bus stop is a high-visibility point of connection between the City and those who live in it. These are gathering places for hundreds of people every day, and they require regular maintenance and oversight.

With your assistance, we can all help keep our community spaces clean, promote ridership, and encourage alternative/sustainable transportation options. We welcome individuals, families, companies, civic groups, schools, church groups, and youth groups interested in becoming part of the Adopt-A-Stop program. Everyone benefits from this environmentally conscious program – residents, property owners, businesses, visitors, and transit riders.

Our Adopt-A-Stop volunteers are provided with everything they need to safely assist with maintaining their bus stop. These volunteers are also the eyes and ears for our transit department--they have a direct point of contact to notify when additional graffiti and litter removal assistance is required from the city.

Join our dedicated team of volunteers and make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors in aged care homes here in Albuquerque, across the United States and worldwide.

WHAT WE DO 

We’re an all-volunteer organization that mails cheerful, personal, handwritten letters and cards to elders in care facilities and senior programs. Since April 2020, our dedicated volunteers have sent countless letters and cards in 30 languages, spreading joy and connection around the globe!

WHAT WE OFFER A chance to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of seniors. Flexibility to volunteer from anywhere, anytime, year-round as an individual or with a team. A special program to verify service hours for students and professionals seeking community service credits. (Separate registration is required.) Tips and guidance for crafting personal and meaningful letters available on our website and social media platforms. An inclusive environment where volunteers are encouraged to share their own uplifting stories and experiences without making assumptions about the recipient's background or abilities. All ages and abilities are welcome!  IMPORTANT DETAILS FOR VOLUNTEERS Ideal volunteer: Writes unique, friendly, conversational letters to connect with the reader and make them feel special. We offer ideas on our blog and social media, along with sample letters below! You’ll mail your handwritten letters to one of our partner facilities. After you register with us and write some letters, log on to our user portal to choose a destination. We operate on a two-week cycle, so please don't sign up for letters until you have the time and supplies to mail them. Every two weeks - August 18, September 1, September 15, September 29, etc. - our mailing list resets, and new requests for letters become available for you to claim. Expenses: Postage, writing materials, envelopes. You can send multiple letters in one large envelope to save on postage. We offer a stamp fund for seniors and students (ID required). You won’t know the name of the reader. Address letters as “Dear Friend.” This is not a pen pal program; while you may occasionally receive a response, most seniors don’t have the physical ability or resources to write back to you. We have no staff, physical office, or phone. Please email volunteer Lindsay for support. HOW YOU CAN HELP Join our team of volunteers and commit to writing letters on an ongoing basis. The Animal Welfare Pet Food Pantry will be launching on Sunday, May 25th. It will be held every Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday from 10AM to 2 PM. Teen volunteers are a vital part of our summer programming. Volunteers help with all types of work, from signing up participants, to stamping Summer Reading Logs, and handing out weekly prizes. They may also be asked to help with the day-to-day business of the library, as well as contributing their own special skills on an as-needed basis. Volunteers should be prepared to attend a mandatory orientation and to work a minimum of one shift per week for the duration of the library’s Summer Reading Program which runs May 31st through July 26th, 2025.

Special events are where our volunteers will really shine. Volunteers may help with offering and/or assisting during arts & crafts or story time programs, helping with setting up and tearing down, and with generating publicity by sharing information about our events. Teen volunteers play an important role at the Library during the busy summer schedule.  

What do I need to become an SRP volunteer?

All volunteers must be able to attend an orientation session in order to be considered for the SRP volunteer program. If you cannot attend the orientation date, please contact Brooke Holland at (505)768-4970. After the orientation, a set schedule will be made for each volunteer depending on the library's needs and the teen's availability.

City policy requires background checks for anyone aged 13+ before being considered to volunteer for the Library. There is no cost to the applicant. Background checks must clear before volunteers attend orientation in order to volunteer during the program.

All volunteers must complete a brief orientation before Summer Reading begins!

Orientation simply goes over expectations, policies, and procedures while volunteering on site.

Call to schedule a time to meet with us to complete this orientation anytime between Tuesday, May 20th - Saturday, May 24th 10 am - 5 pm.

A criminal background check will be required. City policy requires anyone who wishes to volunteer at the library to consent to the performance of a background investigation by an outside agency. There is no cost to you.

Wide-open rich and green grassy field space to enjoy a variety of fun activities with a basketball and tennis court. It is one of the largest parks in the city of Albuquerque- the walking bike path curves around the soccer field and the playground is a fun safe structure for kids of all ages to play. This area is pet-friendly for dogs on leashes with a 20+ hole golf course for adults to enjoy.

Community organizations, businesses, and private citizens may adopt a park. The program is flexible enough to allow organizations, business or individuals to choose a location and level of commitment that works best for them, their family, or their staff. The best part—you can adopt a park in your neighborhood!

Contribute directly to the beautification of our City, starting with the area that matters most to you! Volunteering in City of Albuquerque parks is a great way to help our community shine!

Parks can be adopted collaboratively, or by a single family or organization. Families and organizations that adopt a park in-whole (with a minimum commitment of two years) will be recognized with the placement of a sign in the park to recognize and celebrate their contribution.

Parks are a place for everyone to enjoy, and the maintenance of our parks are a place for everyone to pitch in. Even if you don’t commit to adopting a park for two years, you can still sign up here to log the hours you spend doing your part to keep Albuquerque beautiful.

This is the second part of your dog handling journey. Please attend the virtual Dog Behavior class and Shelter Orientation first.

Volunteer: Volunteer Offsite Adoptions Counselor

Position Summary: This position is for volunteers who would like to assist with offsite adoption events. You will be joining a member of the AWD staff and assisting with all of the components of an offsite adoption event. This position includes care of the dogs while offsite, giving counseling to potential adopters, and completing offsite adoption paperwork. Offsite adoption events are typically on weekends and last for several hours. Adoption counseling training and training to complete adoption paperwork will be provided.

Major Job Duties: Select dogs to travel to offsite events. Care for dogs while offsite (walking, giving water/food, cleaning up after, etc.). Counsel potential adopters for best adoption fit. Answer questions pertaining to adoptions and the animal welfare facility.  Complete offsite adoption paperwork and return to main facility. Accept donations to animal welfare and relay those donations to the proper storage (i.e. Monetary donations vs supply donations).

Minor Duties: Clean offsite adoption van and restock care supplies. Restock offsite adoption paperwork. Report any problems with offsite van or equipment.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift at least 20lbs. Stand and walk for long periods. Bending and stretching. Walking dogs can cause arms to be twisted and pulled suddenly.

As a mentor, you will decide, with your mentee, the best way to keep in communication, whether that be email, text, or phone calls.

Major Job Duties: New volunteers (mentees) will be assigned to you as their mentor. You will be providing your either your personal phone or email to your mentee so they can contact you should they need guidance in any manner associated with volunteering with Animal Welfare. Contact via phone may happen even when you are not physically at the shelter and after hours within reason (not before 7am, not after 8pm). You will provide your regular volunteering schedule to your mentee should they choose to volunteer during those same times and receive more guidance after the Shadow Session.

With this position, you can choose to have new volunteers complete their Shadow Session with you and continue with you as their mentor.
