Volunteer: Surgery Recovery Volunteer- Preventive Pet Care Clinic (Copper)This opportunity is to support the animals as they come out of sedation after surgery. Having a human there watching over them when they feel insecure can make the process much calmer instead of panicked or stressful. You must be familiar with handling cats and dogs, be able to lift at least 20lbs alone and more with help, and be able to bend and kneel frequently. You will be joining a member of the AWD staff and assisting with all of the components of an offsite adoption event. This position includes care of the dogs while offsite, giving counseling to potential adopters, and completing offsite adoption paperwork. Offsite adoption events are typically on weekends and last for several hours. Adoption counseling training and training to complete adoption paperwork will be provided. Major Job Duties: Select dogs to travel to offsite events. Care for dogs while offsite (walking, giving water/food, cleaning up after, etc.). Counsel potential adopters for best adoption fit. During your session, you will cover check-in, where to get supplies, where the pets are located, how to use information white boards, how to read kennel cards for pertinent information (ex: available date), where pets can/can’t be taken, and any other topics you think are pertinent all the way up to check-out. The Monthly Book Sale is a major source of funding for the Friends of the Public Library, funding that goes directly to supporting the vital programs of the Library. The Monthly Book Sale is on the second Saturday of each month (for example December 14th). Volunteer shifts are 9:30 am to 1:30 pm or 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Volunteers do not need to work every month, but we do ask that they are communicative and consistent with their scheduling. No supplies are needed, but this is a demanding, physical task. You will be packing used books in boxes and bags. Then the books are taken through a backroom and up to customers via elevator (on carts or in bins) then loaded into the customers cars. Please wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. We have gloves and masks, as well as hand sanitizer. Mentors should be individuals in health professions (any specialty!- doctor, nurse, dentist, vet, therapist, traditional healer, medical student. etc). Special events are where our volunteers will really shine. Volunteers may help with offering and/or assisting during arts & crafts or story time programs, helping with setting up and tearing down, and with generating publicity by sharing information about our events. Teen volunteers play an important role at the Library during the busy summer schedule. What do I need to become an SRP volunteer?All volunteers must be able to attend an orientation session in order to be considered for the SRP volunteer program. If you cannot attend the orientation date, please contact Josh Rosenquest at (505)768-4462. After the orientation, a set schedule will be made for each volunteer depending on the library's needs and the teen's availability. City policy requires L1 background checks for anyone aged 13+ before being considered to volunteer for the Library. There is no cost to the applicant.
