Overview. Join us in creating a safer, more accessible route to school for Wilson Middle and Whittier Elementary school students in Albuquerque's International District. In 2024, on Monday and Friday School Days we are seeking volunteers for the Walking School Bus. A Walking School Bus is a group of students with a minimum of two adults who walk a planned route to school. The Walking School Bus ensures that students walk to school with trusted adults, promoting safety and community engagement.

Volunteer Roles. The Walking School bus is led by two conductors who are trained in traffic safety procedures. The conductors stop traffic and are responsible for safe crossings. Your role as a volunteer involves walking students along a planned route, fostering a sense of security, and building strong relationships with students and families. Plus, it is a health initiative: get your steps in while walking students to school. Together, we can reduce absenteeism, improve neighborhood safety, and support student success!
