Volunteer Opportunity: Sensory Blanket/Aprons Creator for Alzheimer’s/Dementia Patients
Position Overview:
We are seeking compassionate individuals or groups to create sensory blankets for patients living with Alzheimer’s and dementia in hospice care. These blankets provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and offer tactile stimulation, making a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients.
What Are Sensory Blankets?
Sensory blankets (also called fidget blankets) are designed with various textures, colors, and interactive elements such as zippers, buttons, ribbons, and soft fabrics. They help patients stay calm and engaged by stimulating their senses.
Responsibilities:
- Design and create sensory blankets using safe, washable materials.
- Incorporate a variety of textures and interactive features.
- Ensure items are securely attached for patient safety.
- Deliver completed blankets to our hospice location.
Ideal Volunteer:
- Enjoys crafting or sewing.
- Has attention to detail and creativity.
- Wants to make a positive impact on patients and families during a sensitive time.
Time Commitment:
Flexible—create blankets at your own pace and schedule. Drop them off at the office or coordinate to drop blankets off with patients
