Overview:
We are seeking compassionate volunteers with certified therapy animals to provide comfort, companionship, and emotional support to hospice patients and their families. Pet therapy visits offer a unique and meaningful way to enhance quality of life during end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visit hospice patients in their homes, care facilities, or inpatient units with your certified therapy animal.
- Offer gentle interaction, companionship, and emotional support through pet visits.
- Communicate with hospice staff and families to ensure visits are appropriate and beneficial.
- Maintain a calm, respectful, and empathetic presence during visits.
- Log visit details and report any concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Certified therapy animal through a recognized organization
- All required vaccinations must be up to date and copies of the vaccinations/ medical evaluation must be maintained in the Volunteer’s Personnel File; required vaccines include Rabies and Distemper. A copy of the current certification/ registration, in addition to the liability insurance coverage, must also be maintained.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the Albuquerque area.
- Ability to work independently and with sensitivity to the needs of hospice patients.
- Completion of hospice volunteer training (provided).
- Must pass background check and health screening.
