BACKGROUND
The CABQ Open Space Division is adding a new ~5-mile trail on the west mesa near the boundary with NPS land (Petroglyph National Monument), out by the volcanoes. This will be a non-motorized single-track multi-use trail, and user groups will include hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. The trail will run between two trailheads: an eastern terminus near the Boca Negra Horseman's Complex(map), and a western terminus at the west trailhead(map) of the Paseo de la Mesa Trail. A Rocky Mountain Youth Corps crew is currently building westward from the Horseman's Complex. Meanwhile, on May 11th, the plan will be for volunteers to build new trail from the western terminus.
