Every year on the first Saturday in June volunteers and public land agencies nationwide team up to celebrate National Trails Day. This year on June 7th the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division and the Open Space Alliance will host a morning of trail projects at the Elena Gallegos Open Space. REGISTRATION REQUIRED! We’ll meet at 8:30AM at the “double shelter” (map) to enjoy donated snacks and some social time. Volunteers will sign waivers and choose their project for the day, then we’ll head out on the trails. At around noon we’ll gather at the Kiwanis shelter (map) for a free lunch! Afterwards we’ll raffle off prizes donated by local businesses.
PARKING IS LIMITED, SO PLEASE CARPOOL IF POSSIBLE. Arriving early leaves a better chance of finding a parking spot nearby – otherwise it’s a lovely hike to the double shelter.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Sorry, no pets.
Please bring sturdy shoes (no sandals), work gloves, sunglasses and sunblock. A hat and long pants are also recommended. It will be hot, so bring plenty of water!
If you would like to sign up as a group, or if you have questions, please contact Trails Volunteer Program Coordinator Jonathan Donovan jdonovan@cabq.gov 505-768-4041.
