No specialized construction experience is required. Volunteers will receive guidance from the Greater Good Charities team and project leaders on-site.
Greater Good Charities helps people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need and amplifying the good. Through disaster response, animal welfare, and community programs, we partner with local organizations to strengthen the places that care for vulnerable populations.
This volunteer project supports Gateway West Center One Albuquerque, part of the City of Albuquerque’s One Albuquerque initiative, which focuses on improving quality of life through behavioral health services, public health programs, affordable housing, and homeless services.
Gateway West provides a safe environment for people experiencing homelessness and is also pet-friendly, housing up to 120 dogs, with an average of 56 pets staying each night. By supporting Greater Good Charities and Gateway West, volunteers will help improve the shelter’s ability to care for both residents and their pets. Project work will focus on expanding dog play areas, creating a pet grooming station, and improving storage and pet support spaces throughout the facility.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Assembly of fencing
- Assisting with a pet grooming station installation
- Organizing and improving storage spaces
- Setting up pet supply and enrichment areas
- General construction support (lifting, measuring, painting, organizing materials, and cleanup)
