Are you a good organizer with attention to detail? With an average of over 13,000 people utilizing the
Library monthly, shelves can become both messy and out-of-order. Helping to keep the library in order is
a valued and important task. Volunteers for this position will pull materials in the morning that have been requested by patrons at other branches. Once the items are pulled from the shelves and placed on a cart, the staff will send them to the proper branch location for patron pickup.
Volunteers for this position will also maintain shelf order, accessibility, and appearance so staff and library patrons can easily find materials. You will read spine labels and re-shelve books that are improperly ordered. You will also identify to the Volunteer Coordinator any material requiring mending or cleaning, shift books as necessary to ensure easy access, and remove any bookmarks, paper, or litter from books and shelves.

Shifts are two hours. Volunteers will be standing the majority of the time along with stretching
up or bending down to reach books. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is
preferable. Alphabetizing and numerical sequencing are essential skills. Volunteers will be working
alone in the stacks, and they will need to be able to read the call numbers on the spines of all materials.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you have cleared the background check, your application will be in
pending status and submitted to (Library Branch Name). The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you
for an interview and to let you know the status of the opportunity you have applied for. A new volunteer may not participate at the library branch until you have
been cleared by library staff.
