Opportunities From: One Albuquerque Volunteers

Volunteer: Crafting with MaskupNM

MaskupNM is changing! We keep on crafting for change through volunteering for our community!

We are recruiting volunteers with any crafting skills to make handmade items that provide change and show how much we care to many different charity organizations in our city. Now that we have helped with over 100,000 protective masks and other items for first responders, medical professionals, and vulnerable individuals in the community, we want to keep providing handmade items that can make a difference, and that means you can help on your free time while you're turning your hobbies into real life help.

If you can sew and have your own sewing machine, can knit, crochet, loom knit, or you can teach others or your kids to do the same, or even if you can only donate materials, then you can help. There's always projects to put your hands to help. We may be able to provide materials and patterns, depending on the task, and we'd like to know if you can join in action.

If you wish to continue the contact with this local effort, join the @MaskupNM Facebook community today to coordinate with others in Albuquerque undertaking this important work.

For now, we highly encourage you to join a larger craftivism group which we are part of and also provided help with extra hands when we had a very large project in 2021.

Crafting Change (https://www.craftingchange.org/) started just like us and saw the opportunity for members to keep helping other communities all across the United States. Their board members are dedicated to reach out to organizations in need of crafted items, agree on the characteristics of them, provide patterns, receive materials donations to redistribute and even organize events throughout the year to keep the spirits of volunteers high and alive. We encourage you to reach out to them and see the projects they are supporting at the moment. They also have a Facebook Community where you can socialize, ask questions, see important updates and participate in crafting meetings. If you contribute to any of their activities, you can log your hours here as well, every little bit of volunteerism counts!

This movement can help you turn your love for crafts into positive outcomes, but can also help you see the kind of crafts and simple things that can support communities. If you see something you like and think you can donate locally, let's talk about it!  We'd be glad to welcome any initiatives and address the local needs of Albuquerque and all of New Mexico. If you have any ideas you would like to share, click on RESPOND to this opportunity and leave what you have in mind in the Additional Notes section. You will be contacted to discuss your project and connect you locally.

If you are interested in donating materials or have any further questions, please contact us at MaskupNM@gmail.com

By responding to this opportunity we can turn your time into more resources for the city when you log your hours.

Did you know that the Junior League of Albuquerque has a diaper bank that serves the underserved populations of the ABQ community? We are also one of 2 National Diaper Bank Network Partner Diaper Banks in the state.

The Junior League of Albuquerque believes all babies should have the diapers they need, yet 1 in 4 families struggle to afford diapers. In 2020 the Junior League of Albuquerque distributed more than 40 thousand diapers! This is a wonderful opportunity to collect diapers and ensure all babies have diapers to be healthy and happy.

Our goal is to collect 5,000 boxes/packs of diapers!

Here is how you can participate in 3 easy steps:

Visit Junior League of Albuquerque Amazon Wish List Select the item(s) you’re donating Purchase the Wish List Item(s) & include "1abq" alongside your purchase in the “gift notes” for the donation.

 OR

If you would prefer to drop off diapers in person, you may stop by our offices at 3900 Osuna Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 and just make sure to put a sticky note on your donation that says ABQONE - this will help us to identify the source of the donations.

There will be a sign that says no donations, but just leave them with the receptionist. We will get them.
