AI Trainee & Lab Support Volunteer

This volunteer role is for anyone who wants to learn how artificial intelligence is used to manage a real working lab. We use AI to track our animals, monitor our plants, organize our classes, and keep the Lab running smoothly. You will learn how to use AI as a practical tool and how to integrate it into everyday workflow.

Responsibilities
• Learn how AI supports animal care, including feeding schedules, habitat notes, and behavior logs
• Assist with plant monitoring using AI-generated checklists, nutrient reminders, and troubleshooting tools
• Help set up and support AI-powered lesson plans for classes, clubs, and community groups
• Use AI to organize tasks, track inventory, record data, and prepare simple reports
• Assist visitors with basic AI questions during tours and workshops
• Keep the Lab’s tech and work areas clean, organized, and ready for the next group
• Follow all safety and privacy guidelines when using AI systems

Skills and Qualifications
• No prior AI experience required — training is provided step by step
• Comfortable using computers and willing to learn new technology
• Reliable, patient, and able to help kids, adults, and seniors
• Team-oriented and adaptable in a busy lab environment

Time Commitment
• One weekly 1–2 hour shift
• Additional training opportunities available

The Department of Health, Housing, and Homelessness, in partnership with Chicanos Por La Causa, welcomes hundreds of people seeking shelter every day. Therefore, we are interested in giving the lobby and hallway a fresh coat of paint to elevate the atmosphere of our Guest/Host Services area. We would like to invite anyone with a painting background to participate.

Overview: AI Living Lab is looking for compassionate, curious volunteers to assist with the care and education of our resident reptiles, including turtles, lizards, and other species. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn basic animal husbandry, support science education, and be part of a calm, nurturing environment where all living things are respected.

Responsibilities: Help feed and care for reptiles under supervision Clean and maintain reptile habitats using safe, approved procedures Observe and report on animal behavior and health Support reptile handling activities during educational programs Greet and inform visitors during tours and open houses Assist with exhibit upkeep and enrichment projects Follow all safety and cleanliness protocols

Requirements: Must be age 14 or older Comfortable being around reptiles and working in close contact with them Able to follow instructions and attend one training session Friendly, reliable, and interested in animals, nature, or education Volunteers under 18 must have parent/guardian permission

Schedule: Flexible weekday and weekend shifts
