We are seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to join our Hospice Vigil Volunteer Team—a special group dedicated to ensuring that no one faces the end of life alone.

As a vigil volunteer, you provide a calm, comforting presence for patients and their families during their final hours. This may include sitting quietly at the bedside, offering gentle reassurance, or simply being there so families can rest knowing their loved one is not alone.

Short-notice visits: You may be contacted when a patient is actively dying and a vigil presence is needed. Quiet companionship: Sitting bedside, holding a hand, reading softly, playing music, or maintaining a peaceful space. Support for families: Providing reassurance and a calming presence during a very emotional time. What We’re Looking For: Compassionate, reliable individuals with a heart for service Ability to be on call and available when needs arise Comfort with end-of-life situations (training is provided) Strong sense of empathy, respect, and presence Why It Matters:

Your presence can bring peace, dignity, and comfort in a person’s final moments—and provide immeasurable support to families when they need it most.

Training & Support:

All volunteers receive training and ongoing support from our hospice team. You are never alone in this work—you are part of a caring, dedicated community.

Your courage, honor, and dedication have shaped the way you care for others. As a veteran, you understand what it means to stand alongside someone during their most vulnerable moments—and that shared experience uniquely prepares you to bring comfort to fellow veterans at the end of life.

At Gentiva Hospice, we believe no veteran should face their final journey alone. As a Veteran‑to‑Veteran Volunteer, you can continue your legacy of service in a deeply meaningful way.

As a Veteran Volunteer, You Can: Offer companionship and reassurance to veterans in their final days, helping them feel seen, valued, and honored. Share stories and understanding that only another veteran can provide—creating a powerful bond rooted in shared experience. Provide dignity, respect, and emotional support during end‑of‑life care so veterans feel safe, supported, and never forgotten.

Your military service may be complete, but your impact does not end. Through your presence, compassion, and lived experience, you can bring comfort during one of life’s most sacred transitions.

Your service continues—through kindness, connection, and honoring those who have served.

If you feel called to support fellow veterans in their final chapter, we invite you to join our dedicated team of Gentiva Hospice volunteers.
