We are seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to join our Hospice Vigil Volunteer Team—a special group dedicated to ensuring that no one faces the end of life alone.

As a vigil volunteer, you provide a calm, comforting presence for patients and their families during their final hours. This may include sitting quietly at the bedside, offering gentle reassurance, or simply being there so families can rest knowing their loved one is not alone.

What This Role Looks Like: On-call availability: Vigil needs can arise at any time, so volunteers are asked to be flexible and responsive when called. Short-notice visits: You may be contacted when a patient is actively dying and a vigil presence is needed. Quiet companionship: Sitting bedside, holding a hand, reading softly, playing music, or maintaining a peaceful space. Support for families: Providing reassurance and a calming presence during a very emotional time. What We’re Looking For: Compassionate, reliable individuals with a heart for service Ability to be on call and available when needs arise Comfort with end-of-life situations (training is provided) Strong sense of empathy, respect, and presence Why It Matters:

Training & Support:

All volunteers receive training and ongoing support from our hospice team. You are never alone in this work—you are part of a caring, dedicated community.

Share stories and understanding that only another veteran can provide—creating a powerful bond rooted in shared experience. Provide dignity, respect, and emotional support during end‑of‑life care so veterans feel safe, supported, and never forgotten.

Volunteer Opportunities in Los Lunas & Belen

Gentiva Hospice is excited to welcome compassionate individuals from the Los Lunas and Belen communities who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. We are currently seeking dedicated volunteers to support patients in these outlying areas through a variety of rewarding roles, including:

Pet Therapy Volunteers Hospice Companions Massage Therapy Volunteers Haircare Specialists Music Volunteers Vigil Volunteers Vet-to-Vet Volunteers

Flexible Hours — Your Time Truly Matters
Volunteers typically serve 10–12 hours per month, with scheduling that works around your availability.

No medical experience is required—just kindness, reliability, and a heart for ensuring no one is alone during their final moments.

Gentiva Hospice is an outpatient hospice, providing comfort-focused care wherever a patient calls home, including private residences, nursing homes, and assisted living communities throughout Los Lunas and Belen.
