We’re looking for compassionate volunteers to assist our kitchen staff in preparing and serving meals for our residents. Volunteers help with meal prep about an hour - 2 hours before serving, serve meals during scheduled times, and clean-up for about 30 minutes - 1 hour afterward.

Meal Service Times for Residents: Daily

Breakfast: 8:00 am – 9:00 am 

Lunch: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Dinner: 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

If you enjoy cooking, teamwork, and brightening someone’s day with a warm meal, we’d love to have you join us.

Flexible shifts – choose the days and meals that work best for you. Volunteers can work anywhere from 3-8 hour shifts. Feel free to write in the comment box what availability you have or in the volunteer application once it is sent to you. The volunteer manager will get back to you as soon as possible!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Assist with preparing and cooking meals and snacks

2. Assist with serving meals (serve cafeteria style)

3. Cleans and sanitizes the equipment, dishes, and food service facility to meet city and state sanitation requirements.

4. Maintain a consistently respectful, courteous, positive, cooperative, and professional demeanor with residents, coworkers, donors and others.

5. Work as an effective team member to ensure the highest quality and most relevant services are provided to residents and to help further the mission of the agency.

6. Maintain the confidentiality of residents, employees and agency confidential information.

7. Follows standard operating procedures to ensure efficient food service operations.

8. Takes inventory and orders food and supplies, as directed.

9. Assist with unloading trucks and putting away food and other supplies.

3. Prepares donated items for retail sale including sorting, tagging, pricing and rearranging merchandise, as needed.

5. Accepts donations brought to the store including unloading items from donor vehicles.

Are you handy, energetic, or simply looking for a way to give back? S.A.F.E. House is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist our Maintenance Department with essential tasks that help keep our shelter safe and welcoming for survivors of domestic violence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists with minor building repairs, including drywall work.

2. Maintains buildings, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical, and other related maintenance activities.

3. Assists with servicing and starting furnaces and coolers; replacing air conditioner and furnace filters as needed.

4. Notifies the Facility Manager concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment, buildings, walkways, floors, grounds, etc.

5. Cleans snow and debris from walkways; picks up refuse from grounds; mows, trims, and prunes landscape.

6. Light repairs (painting, fixing furniture, etc.)

7. Yard work (landscaping, raking leaves, snow removal)

8. General upkeep to maintain a safe, clean environment

Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming common areas

Wiping down surfaces, windows, and fixtures

Organizing supply closets and storage rooms

Cleaning and sanitizing kitchens, bathrooms, and communal spaces

Taking out trash

Assisting with laundry (linens, towels, etc.)

No experience necessary—just a willingness to help and a heart for service. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and adhere to confidentiality guidelines to ensure the privacy and safety of our residents.

We’re looking for compassionate volunteers to assist our Resident Advocates in the shelter office by helping with answering our crisis line. S.A.F.E. House is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence through shelter, advocacy, and empowerment. Our volunteers play a vital role in making this possible. Our crisis line is how we assess and bring in survivors in need of our services. Our Training and Volunteer Manager will provide training for this role after orientation and your schedule is created. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Crisis Line Duties

Answer 24/7 crisis line calls with empathy and professionalism

Conduct initial assessments and coordinate emergency shelter intakes

Provide safety planning, emotional support, and referrals

Accurately document all calls and follow internal procedures

Collaborate with staff, law enforcement, hospitals, and other partners as needed

Maintain survivor confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
