Opportunities From: One Albuquerque Volunteers

Casa San Ysidro: The Gutiérrez/Minge House is now recruiting volunteer tour guides for 2026! Join our team of volunteer guides to give public tours, teach students on field trips, and/or help to run our programming throughout the year! We are especially looking for Guides with Spanish-language, Native American or Farm and Ranch heritages to enrich the experience of school groups and other visitors.

If you are interested in joining our excellent team of guides, please reach out to Casa San Ysidro Site Manager, Aaron Gardner, at agardner@cabq.gov, or call our office at 505-768-4917. You may begin volunteering at any time after you are interviewed, but completion of the Spring Guide Training - held on three consecutive Saturdays in April, 9:00am to 12:00pm - is required in order to start giving tours or continue staffing events. A photo release waiver is required for the trainings; after trainings if you wish to continue on as a guide you will need to complete a background check.

4/4: TRAINING SESSION I: The History of Casa San Ysidro: Gutiérrez / Minge House

• Application Process
• Docent Handbook
• A history of New Mexico and its cultures
• An overview of the families that inhabited the home
• Guest speaker Robert Torrez, former New Mexico State Historian (10:30 – 11:30 AM)

4/11: TRAINING SESSION II: Techniques for Interpreting Objects, Themes, and Engagement

• Public Tours Interpret history to others through examples of material culture
• Interweave themes and engage your audience based on interests
• Learn anecdotes about the property and collection to tailor your tour
• Overview and tour of the property
• Guest speaker Shawn Price, Director of the Dineh Tah’ Navajo Cultural Program and the Dineh Tah’ Navajo Dancers (1 – 3 PM)

4/18: TRAINING SESSION III: School Tours, Programming, and Docent Opportunities

• Learn how to give tours to public and private schools
• Opportunities with the Albuquerque Museum
• Demonstrate hands-on interests
• Guest speaker Margarita Paz-Pedro, Middle Rio Grande Urban Waters program - Artist in Residence Project (12 – 2pm)

About the museum:

The c. 1875 Gutiérrez family adobe home, restored and expanded by Dr. Ward Alan and Shirley Minge, combines traditional building techniques and architectural features that evoke New Mexico's Spanish Colonial and Mexican past. Located in the farming village of Corrales, just north of Albuquerque, the museum is listed on the State Register of Cultural Properties and El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail. Casa San Ysidro is an official site of the Albuquerque Museum.
