Opportunities From: One Albuquerque Volunteers

Volunteer: Running Medicine Coach/Volunteer

Running Medicine (RM) is a community movement program under the Native Health Initiative. We are seeking volunteers for youth or adult coaches. RM meets four times a week, and we have an incentive program for volunteers to earn awards and recognition based on how many celebrations (practices) they attend. We have two locations to choose from - Downtown Albuquerque and West Side/Rio Rancho. This volunteer opportunity is recurring, and volunteers are expected to volunteer through the end of the Spring Season (early June).

Volunteers should have an interest in running, and will be provided with all resources they need to successfully help lead and contribute as a coach.

Running Medicine was formed in 2016 as a program of Native Health Initiative. We brought together a community to launch a program based on family, having fun and being inclusive of all ages, abilities and fitness levels. The group founders wanted to have a low-cost, family-oriented running/walking program that invoked the idea that running is indeed a medicine for mind, body and spirit. As Native Health Initiative strives to build cultures of wellness in Native communities, Running Medicine has become a critical component in helping lessen the burden of chronic disease that disproportionally affects Indigenous populations.

Volunteer: Massage Program Volunteering - Therapists + Info Tabling

Masani's Massage is a program of the Native Health Initiative providing free chair massages to elders at senior centers located on pueblos and reservations.

We are seeking volunteers for:

licensed massage therapistsstudent massage therapistsinformational table volunteers (no license required!)

This volunteer opportunity is event specific. If interested, register to be a volunteer here and you will be contacted by the Program Manager. Events are generally on reservations, not at the office location listed in this posting.

Many elders experience social isolation due to geographical remoteness or lack of community resources. These factors contribute to disparities in health outcomes and quality of life among Native American elders. Senior Centers on pueblos and reservations provide a central gathering point and access to social connectedness for many people.
