We are excited to be part of the National Diaper Bank Network, and we are one of two diaper banks that are serving the state of New Mexico! Diaper need affects many families in the Albuquerque area and here are some fast facts:
- 1 in 3 families struggles with diaper need.
- 5.3 million babies and toddlers under the age of 3 live in poor and low-income families.
- Government safety-net programs do not recognize diapers as a basic need.
- Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps, and are classified with cigarettes, alcohol, and pet food as disallowed purchases.
- Diaper need impacts the physical, mental, and economic well-being of children and parents.
- Most child care centers require parents to provide a day’s supply of disposable diapers (four to six changes during the day).
- Many parents cannot go to work or school if they can’t leave their babies at child care.
- Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, at a cost of $70 to $80 per month per baby.
- There are more than 350 active diaper banks in the U.S.
This is where your organization can come in! We are looking for organizations (your work, your school, your church, your gym, your association, you name it!) that can host a diaper drive. This can be virtual or in person!
We will:
- Provide the baskets to your location and/or provide you with the QSR code to share with your business, school, church etc.
- We place your logo on our website, acknowledging your contribution, and in our newsletter to spread the word about your organization!
Hosting a diaper drive is EASY:
- We will provide the verbiage with our goal: usually, we try to collect 300 boxes/packs of diapers per drive
- You would alert your community and let them know that your organization is hosting a diaper drive
- People come in and drop of the diapers - that's it!
