Description

This is a fee based class that will be held monthly February through October on the 4th Saturday of the month (no class in the month of July).

Below we have listed the theme of each class. Classes can be taking individually, you do not have to sign up for the entire series. Fee will be collected upon entry the day of the class. 

Classes are limited to 15 per class, so please make a reservation in advance if you would like to attend by emailing the contact listed.

 

2/22/20            Heritage Spinning and Weaving – Fiber Prep

This class features the origins and histories of fiber in Spanish Colonial New Mexico, fiber harvest, and preparation using Churro wool.

Practical includes: Washing, Carding, and combing.

3/28/20            Heritage Spinning and WeavingFiber Prep – Spinning

This class features yarn building and fiber-made utilitarian items.

Practical includes:  spinning on a drop spindle.

4/25/20                        Heritage Spinning and WeavingFiber Prep – Spinning  

This class features yarn building and fiber-made utilitarian items.

Practical includes:  spinning on a spinning wheel.

6/27/20                        Heritage Spinning and WeavingDyeing Purposes and Uses

This class features traditional methods and techniques using natural dyes. Guests will learn the use of traditional and local dye plants to replicate colors of time period practices used for dyeing wool.

Practical includes: Dyeing wool with natural colors.

8/22/20                        Heritage Spinning and WeavingProducts

This class features lessons on the products of colonial and territorial New Mexico that were fiber-made utilitarian items and trade item used in silver mines in Mexico. Practical includes: Sock making

9/12/20            Heritage Spinning and WeavingWeaving

This class features demonstrating portions of the winding and warping with table looms using wool yarn and traditional patterns for jerga and colcha.

Practical includes: Weaving on different styles of looms

10/24/20          Heritage Spinning and WeavingWeaving

This class features information on the original base fabric for a colcha: sabanilla – a loosely woven wool fabric with a 12 – 22 thread count.
