Who We Are

To ensure that Albuquerque’s Native Americans receive equitable and inclusive access to City services and resources to improve their quality of life, ensure their safety, and maintain their cultural heritage.

 

The City of Albuquerque’s workforce is broadly representative of the people who live in the City, values skills/background at all level of City employment.  Our workforce equity objectives are to:

  • Diversify the City of Albuquerque workforce.
  • Provide professional development trainings for direct service providers that work with Native populations.
  • Offer learning opportunities and workshops for City of Albuquerque officials and staff to be more equitable, inclusive and anti-racist.

What We Do

  1. The City of Albuquerque Office of Native American Affairs is dedicated to promoting policy and program initiatives that ensure the safety and well-being of Native American individuals and families living in the Albuquerque metropolitan area and devoted to the support and development of intergovernmental relations between the City of Albuquerque government and tribal governments.

  • The City of Albuquerque’s programs and services are accessible, inclusive, and equitable. Our services equity objectives are to:

    • Provide technical assistance to city departments to remove institutional and systemic structural barriers to equitable service provision.
    • Track, analyze, and report service equity data to provide actionable data for decision-making.
    • Regularly attend community meetings for the purpose of maintaining and strengthening community engagement.
    • Regularly attend, support, and co-host community outreach and events.
    • Ensure the City of Albuquerque on Commission on American Indian and Alaska Native Affairs (CAIANA) is staffed and provided with technical assistance and systems navigation.
    • Develop and strengthen relationships between the City of Albuquerque and NM Tribal governments and tribal entities.
    • Improve COA Office of Native American Affairs Communications between City bureaus, Native American Indigenous constituents, and Tribal governments.
