Black Mesa Farm is owned and operated by Bryce Townsend (San Felipe Pueblo) on land that has been stewarded for generations. Black Mesa Farm uses sustainable farming techniques including drip irrigation and organic practices. In addition to specialty crops, traditional crops like squash, melons, and corn are also grown. Black Mesa Farm is not only a source of food for the community, but also a source of education, through farm tours, field days, and hands-on training.
What We Do
Black Mesa Farm is an 8 acre farm in the Pueblo of San Felipe, about 30 miles north of Albuquerque. At the farm, we grow specialty crops including cucumbers, carrots, chard, turnips, garlic, and onions, among other vegetables. Black Mesa Farm grows produce for the New Mexico FreshRx Program, a produce prescription program run by the New Mexico Farmers' Marketing Association (NMFMA) that provides incentives for patients to complement their current medical care by eating nutritious, New Mexico grown produce. On Wednesdays, we put together 300+ individual packages of fresh produce that are then delivered to 10 Pueblo communities for patients supported by the Fresh Rx Program. Volunteers can expect to inspect and sort produce; weigh and package produce; and keep an accurate count of packages.
