What We Do

The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology on University of New Mexico's campus is Albuquerque's oldest public museum, opening in 1932. With the mission of Working toward greater understandings of the fullness of human experiences in the Southwest and the world, the Maxwell is a center for research, teaching, and public communication on the archaeology and contemporary cultural diversity of the U.S. Southwest and the global human story- from our species' earliest origins until today. We engage with K-12 students and the general public through programming, classroom visits, and exhibition tours. Docents are at the heart of this educational programming. Contact us to learn more! maxeducation@unm.edu / 505-277-2924
