Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program

Oasis recruits older adult volunteer reading mentors. We train volunteers utilizing a research based literacy approach, we pay for  school district volunteer background clearance to be processed, and we schedule volunteers in participating elementary schools. Volunteers have a love of reading and typically a college education and/or post graduate degree.

Our volunteer reading mentors help elementary students enlarge their world by exposing them to a love of books. Reading mentors commit to spending one hour, one day a week to mentor K-4 students in one-on-one sessions following the school calendar year. We volunteer in Albuquerque, Belen, Bernalillo, and Rio Rancho participating public elementary schools.
