Who We Are
New Mexico is one of the hungriest states in the US. Each year there are millions of pounds of "forgotten food" going to waste in our community's backyards--from fruit trees.
Albuquerque has an abundant source of fresh, local foods that primarily rot on the ground. FIFABQ is striving to provide a solution by gleaning backyard fruit trees and supplying it to our local food banks, shelters, churches, etc.
Additionally, we strive to connect and educate our community through programs such as our annual Seed Share where no one is turned away for not bringing seeds.
We believe that fresh food is a human right.
What We Do
Our programs include:
- Backyard Fruit Harvesting and Distribution
Striving to connect an abundant source of fresh, local foods to the hungriest parts of our community, FIFABQ harvests and distributes tens of thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables annually. - Fruit Tree Mapping
Collecting this data will allow us to monitor the health of our food-producing tree canopy. Additionally, it will allow FIFABQ to accurately measure the amount of food grown in Albuquerque alone, as well as plugging homeowners into our harvesting network to put their home-grown fresh food to use in our community through FIFABQ.
