Who We Are

About Solid Waste Management

Information about the Solid Waste Department.

The Solid Waste Department's Automation Team.

The Solid Waste Management Department’s dedicated employees are committed to making the City a more beautiful place to live, work, and play by providing median maintenance, daily graffiti removal, trash and recycling pick-up and disposal. Our Department seeks to inspire and educate communities to take simple everyday actions to recycle right and beautify their neighborhoods. Moreover, should a resident need help disposing of a large item, by scheduling with 311 ahead of time, we will pick it up the item at no extra cost on their regular trash day.

The Department also provides convenient drop-off facilities for additional customer needs through our three Convenience Centers and eleven recycling drop-off sites located throughout the City. In addition, with the single-stream recycling program, all recyclables can go into one container, which makes recycling for residents and commercial businesses easy. Our families are part of the community too and by providing opportunities to help keep our city clean, healthy, and sustainable we all win, now and for future generations. We believe that to keep our City clean and beautiful requires a commitment from everyone.

What We Do

Keep Albuquerque Beautiful is dedicated to community education on solid waste management issues and alternatives through litter control, beautification, and graffiti eradication.

We host the following events each year:

Dash for the Trash

Join Keep Albuquerque Beautiful and the City’s Solid Waste Management Department for the first annual Dash for the Trash event. The event will bring a competitive twist to our efforts to keep Albuquerque beautiful. More details about the competition will be released in the coming weeks. Keep Albuquerque Beautiful and the City's Solid Waste Management Department are excited to bring this new event to the southwest by inspiring Burquenos to get their competition on and help to make our communities cleaner, safer, healthier and more beautiful.

Fiesta Fanatics

Another new event this year, is Fiesta Fanatics, our Fall neighborhood cleanup initiative. Volunteers from across the city will be gathering at Balloon Fiesta park to help make our beloved venue shine ahead of our favorite event of the year. At the same time, neighborhoods all over the City will be coming together to beautify their communities and help make sure we're all keeping Albuquerque Beautiful together. To help you clean up your neighborhood, Keep Albuquerque Beautiful and the City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department will:

• Provide free trash bags and gloves for your cleanup
• Collect your neighborhood waste from the cleanup

And this year, we're proud to announce a partnership with #ImagineABQ, to offer even more ways to get involved in the effort to come together ahead of the city's biggest party of the year.

Recyclothes

Keep Albuquerque Beautiful and Locker 505  are teaming up to sponsor the 9th annual Recyclothes event at Hinkle Family Fun Center. Every year, thousands of students in the greater Albuquerque area and their families go without basic necessities. Recyclothes is a clothing drive that directly benefits those students. Locker 505 partners with Albuquerque schools to make sure students in need have clothes, shoes, undergarments and coats so they can focus on learning.

Fixit Clinic

Do you have a broken item in need of repair? Don't throw it away, learn from our Fixit Coaches during this virtual event focused on reusing items.

Keep Albuquerque Beautiful is teaming up with the New Mexico Recycling Coalition to hold our annual Fixit Clinic. It's a free for all-ages, do-it-together activity where people can learn how to assess, disassemble, and hopefully repair their broken household items instead of sending them to the landfill.
